Charles “Chuck” Cook, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at OhioHealth Mansfield, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 89.

Chuck was born on February 15, 1936 to parents Clarence and Viola (DeVinny) Cook in Mansfield, Ohio. After graduating from Mansfield Senior High School in 1954, Chuck enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served as a Sgt. in the Army Security Agency.

After his time in the Army, he went to work for the JC Penney Company as a General Manager. He then returned to Mansfield and began working at the H.L. Reed company. He retired from Reeds in 1991 as President and went to work for Candlewood Lake Association until his second retirement in 2000. He served on the board of Catalyst as Chairman for several years.

On October 5, 1991, Chuck married the love of his life, Jana Hedderly, and the couple shared 33 wonderful years of marriage together.

Chuck was very active in his community and was a member of the Rotary Club of Mansfield (Paul Harris Fellow) and the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years. He was a member of The Hermit Club and was a lifetime member of The Elks. He enjoyed attending performances at the Renaissance Theatre, of which he was a member. As a man of faith he was also a longtime member of First Congregational Church, where he worshiped and served on numerous boards and as a trustee for many years.

Chuck was an avid fisherman, enjoying time on the water at several local lakes and ponds as well as traveling to find new fishing spots with his brother-in-law, Dan Phallen. He attended an Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2022. He enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeye football team and attending Guardians games.

Chuck had an intense love for his family and was generous and kind. He is survived by his loving wife Jana Cook, daughters Lisa Grove and Tracy (Sam) White, grandchildren Aimee Kovinchick, Jennifer (Kyle) Whitacker, Parker (Brittany) Grove, Jordan White and spouse Amy Khau, and Noa White, eight great-grandchildren, sister Susan Phallen, brother Richard (Georgia) Cook, lifetime childhood friend Jon Young, as well as many extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Dan Phallen, and grandson Robert Ellis Grove.

The Cook family will receive guests from 11:30 am to 1 pm on Friday, March 14, 2025 at the First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, where a memorial service in Chuck’s honor will begin immediately following. Pastor Brad Bunn will officiate.

In honor of Chuck’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, Choir Fund.
