Ellen Grace Kauffman, 83
Ellen Grace Kauffman, 83 of Ashland passed away Monday morning, February 24, 2025 in the Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on November 10, 1941 in Ashland the daughter of the late Howard R. and Mary G. (nee Burns) Mortiz.
Her family moved to Akron when she was a child and then to Mansfield returning to Ashland in 1945.
Ellen graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1959.
She married the love of her life, Harold Dean Kauffman on November 22, 1962.
Ellen was employed for the T.W. Miller family while in high school, she had also worked at Islay’s and later became an assistant for Dr. Garrett in Ashland. She joined the sales and display advertising dept at the Ashland Times-Gazette. She then went on to work as a receptionist at the Western Southern Life Insurance Company, retiring in 2000.
She was a devoted member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Orange Grange 2727, and a former deputy master of the state grange. She was a lifetime member of the Ashland County Genealogical Society and a member of the State of Ohio Genealogical Society. Ellen was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed traveling and family reunions.
Ellen is survived by her brother, Charles “Chuck” (Pam) Moritz of Logan; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Ellen is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Dean Kauffman who passed from this life on August 18, 2019; and one sister, Janet (Richard) Motter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Scott presiding. Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
