ASHLAND — Hospice of North Central Ohio (HNCO) will host its 7th Annual Community Corn Roast on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 5-8 p.m. at Mozelle Hall at the Ashland County Fairgrounds. The event is free to the public.
The menu, served by hospice volunteers and city and county officials, consists of pulled pork, watermelon, sweet corn dipped in butter and more. Live music by Knoxville singer/songwriter Ricky Mitchell, children’s activities including inflatables and an animal presentation by Gorman Nature Center, a live pie auction, and a raffle will round out the event.
The idea for the community corn roast was developed seven years ago as a fun way for Hospice of North Central Ohio to thank the community for its support. Throughout the agency’s 27-year history, donations from individuals and businesses have enhanced HNCO’s programming in a dynamic way. Private donations make bereavement support available to not only the loved ones of hospice patients, but to anyone in the community suffering from a loss. Business support makes fundraisers such as the annual Ruth A. Lindsey Golf Benefit possible, and the United Way of Ashland is an example of organizational funding which keeps the children’s bereavement camps, F.O.O.D. delivery program, Vigil Program, and Comfort Care all functioning at their highest capacities. Whether from an individual or a business, the support helps HNCO, a 501(C)(3) non-profit agency, provide numerous services not reimbursed by insurance.
“As community members, we are privileged to care for our mothers, fathers, siblings, children – and even our own employees’ family members,” explains Marketing Coordinator Lanie Roberts. “The corn roast is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to those families and to all who help us carry out our mission.”
Home Hardware, along with DeSanto and Kellogg Law Offices, have donated a 15-cubic-foot freezer of beef to be raffled during the event with tickets priced at $5 each or six for $25.
Ticket holders need not be present to win. Freewill donations will be accepted at the door, and credit card purchases will be accepted for raffle sales, the pie auction, and donations.
