MANSFIELD: Helen Frances Lapeer passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 13, 2025. She was 88.
She was born on April 17, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to parents John and Mary (Wolak) Zbizek. Helen was a 1953 graduate of Fordson High, in Dearborn, Michigan. On July 25, 1959, she married Richard (Dick) Lapeer, they had 4 children, moved from Michigan to Ohio in 1983, and the couple shared 59 wonderful years of marriage together until his passing in 2018. Now they are reunited in Heaven together again.
Helen loved her Catholic faith and was able to enjoy sharing it at whatever parish she was able to be close to. Throughout life she worked in various administrative fields, but her favorite and most important job was being a mother and later in life a grandmother. Helen’s entire life revolved around caring for her children and grandchildren, being involved in all of their activities, and creating lasting memories at every opportunity- even if that meant putting off the housework for a little bit. Above all else, spending time with her family was her greatest joy in life.
She is survived by her children Tracy Holzmiller, John (Melissa) Lapeer, and Kristine (Shawn) Neal, grandchildren Evan (Audrey) Holzmiller, Erin Holzmiller, Grace Holzmiller, Ryan Neal, Owen Neal, and baby Ryenne, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Helen is preceded in death by her son Richard “Rick” Lapeer, parents John and Mary Zbizek, and siblings Ted Zbizek and Irene Patuszka.
The Lapeer family will receive guests on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 4 to 7 pm in the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel. On Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 11am, she will be held in state prior to a funeral Mass at Resurrection P arish, which will begin at 12 noon. She will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Memorial Park.
