SHELBY — The Shelby City School District is already preparing for next year.
Shelby Assistant Superintendent Paul Walker announced during Monday’s board meeting that Little Whippets Preschool is officially enrolling for the 2025-2026 school year.
Registration is open to students ages 3 to 5. The 3-year-olds must have reached that age by Jan. 1, 2025. Preschool is offered to students Monday through Thursday and follows the district’s calendar. Both morning and afternoon sessions are available.
Tuition costs $900 per year. Payment plans and a sliding fee schedule are offered. Classes consist of no more than 16 students, including children with disabilities.
Screenings are given to assist with determining any specialized instructional needs. All teachers are licensed through the Ohio Department of Education. Enrichment activities are also offered, along with hands-on learning.
Those interested in enrolling their student should complete an application, which can be found on the district’s website.
Kindergarten registration
The time has also come for members of the Class of 2038 to become registered for kindergarten.
In-person registration will take place March 14 and April 4, Walker said Monday.
Students must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2025 to enter kindergarten.
Parents should plan to bring the following documents to registration:
- Student birth certificate
- Immunization records
- Custody papers (if applicable)
- Proof of residency (ex. utility bill)
In addition to the above documents, district officials are asking FinalForms documents to be completed prior to the in-person registration dates.
FinalForms is an online forms and data management service which allows parents to complete and sign enrollment, back-to-school and athletic participation forms for their students, according to the district’s website.

Safety Town and Camp Invention
Students preparing to enter kindergarten have an additional opportunity to get acquainted with the school’s grounds this summer.
Registration forms for Safety Town will be available during in-person registration dates for kindergarten, as well as Shelby Elementary School’s main office. The cost is $10 per student, which is due when the form is submitted.
Scholarships are available for those interested.
Safety Town is set to run June 9 to 13 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each day. For any additional information, contact Anne Finn, director, at finn.anne@shelbyk12.org.
A few weeks prior to Safety Town, students in kindergarten through fifth grade can attend Camp Invention from June 2 to 5 from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. each day.
The district has offered the program each summer for over 20 years, according to district officials. Close to 100 students have attended each summer for the past five years.
The program costs $275 per student. Scholarships are available.
