Walter Robert LaVan, 94, of rural Galion passed away Monday, February 3, 2025 at JAG Healthcare Galion.
Born June 5, 1930 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Victor and Mable (Leonard) LaVan. He married Maria (Bruge) LaVan on January 25, 1953 and she preceded him on July 7, 1977. He later married Doris (Fischer) Sidwell LaVan on August 30, 1980 and she preceded him on March 27, 2019.
He proudly served in the United States Army. Walter worked in quality control at PPG, and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Galion.
He is survived by children, Erika Funk of Galion, Laura (Robert) Flynn of Maryville, Illinois, John (Sue) Sidwell of Maryville, Illinois, Robert (Molly) Sidwell of Windermere, Florida, Ed (Beth) Sidwell of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Glenn La Van of Mt. Gilead; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by sister Martha Elizabeth Crissey and brother Harry Boyd LaVan.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday with Pastor Tim Wingert officiating.
