SHELBY — Junior point guard Brayden DeVito erupted for 26 points to bring Shelby back from a halftime deficit for a 70-66 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Galion on Saturday night.
DeVito scored 17 points in the second half to fuel the Whippets’ rally from a 32-28 deficit at the intermission.
Karsen Homan contributed 16 points and Anderson Brubaker chipped in 11 points for Shelby.
The hosts earned a 10-9 first-quarter edge, but Galion enjoyed a 23-18 scoring margin in the second period.
Shelby responded in the third quarter to move on top 52-51, and hung on through a tight fourth period.
Max Albert’s 25 points led Galion. Sophomore Christian Bare netted 13 points and Quinn Miller had 11.
The Whippets are 8-6 overall, 5-3 in the MOAC. Shelby hosts Highland on Friday night.
The Tigers fall to 2-10, 1-6 and are scheduled to play at Northmor on Monday night.
