MANSFIELD — The Richland County Youth and Family Council is proud to announce its first Ties for Guys event.

The Ties for Guys event is aimed at helping young men in the community, specifically seniors in high school, as they prepare for their future.

A big part of success is leaving a great first impression. Clothing plays a very important role in many first impressions.

The Richland County Youth and Family Council is providing the opportunity to obtain clothing that many seniors in the area may not be able to get on their own.

“Our purpose is to help support youth in being successful in all aspects of their lives, and having adequate clothing is a big piece of that puzzle,” said Michelle Miller, a representative of the Richland County Youth and Family Council.

Miller said any high school senior male in the community is welcome to participate in this event after applying.

Once the application has been submitted and the men are accepted, they will be selected to pick out their outfits. This will be a specific date and time, which will be held by appointment only.

The young men chosen will have the opportunity to pick out a complete outfit. This will consist of a dress shirt, dress pants, shoes, and a tie.

Miller said allowing the men to choose their clothing pieces is an important part of the Ties for Guys event. It allows them to feel a sense of independence and comfort by curating their outfits.

“JCPenney has been so gracious to partner with us on this event,” Miller shared.

The collaboration with JCPenney has provided these young men with high-quality clothing items that they will be able to use for any event needed to help them gain success in their future.

“Aurelio Diaz and Mario Davison, from NECIC, have volunteered to assist with the dressing days,” Miller said.

The Ties for Guys event is a great way to not only provide clothing for these young men but also to provide them with a sense of empowerment and confidence.

While the original application deadline was Nov. 22, the Richland County Youth and Family Council has extended the deadline to Nov. 26, giving more students the chance to be involved in this event.

Applications can be scanned and emailed to michelle.miller2@jfs.ohio.gov or call 419-774-5442 to schedule a time to drop off the form.
