MANSFIELD — Improving the visibility of Shelby’s historic downtown bandstand has contributed to the holiday spirit in the City of Mansfield.
An evergreen tree, standing approximately 30 feet, was delivered and set into place Wednesday morning by the Mansfield Street Department and Shelly Smith & Sons towing.
The evergreen was donated to Mansfield this year by the City of Shelby and the Community Improvement Corporation of Shelby, Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry said.
Situated in front of the Richland Carrousel Park, 75 N. Main St., the official tree lighting and activities are set for Dec. 6 starting at 6 p.m. at the carousel.
Richland Carrousel Park and Downtown Mansfield Inc. are hosting the event, which will also include carriage rides, live reindeer, photos with Santa, Christmas caroling and more.

Contributing to holiday spirit
In July of 2023, the Shelby CIC was chosen to develop nearly 15 acres of property in the heart of downtown, previously home to the Central Elementary School building and Skiles Field.
Cody Albert, vice president of the CIC, said after the acquisition, enhancement efforts included improving the visibility of the city’s historic bandstand.

“In the process, we had to remove two trees to make way for these improvements, and we’re delighted that one of those trees will now serve as a centerpiece for Christmas celebrations in downtown Mansfield,” Albert said.
“We’re honored to share a little bit of Shelby with our neighbors during the holiday season, and we are proud to have such a collaborative relationship with our friends and neighbors in Mansfield.”
Folks who want to enjoy extra holiday spirit are encouraged to visit downtown Shelby as well, he said.
“The Shelby CIC is thrilled to contribute to the holiday spirit, not just in our own community, but also in Mansfield,” Albert said.
“We also invite everyone to venture downtown in December to see the wonderful holiday decorations that our dedicated volunteers, the Flower Girls, will install. Their efforts are always beautiful.”
