Hina (Amin) Desai of Mansfield passed away peacefully at her home of thirty years on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, nine days before her 65th birthday.

Born on September 27, 1959, in Nadiad, India to Vinodchandra and Muktaben (Patel) Amin, Hina spent her childhood playing with friends and watching movies with her mother. She married her husband, Yogesh, on December 14, 1981, and immigrated to the United States shortly after. She completed her master’s degree in microbiology before moving to Mansfield in 1994. During the day, she worked as an office administrator at her husband’s busy medical practice. The remainder of her time was spent raising her two young children, Vasvi and Vilok, seven thousand miles from her homeland.

When her children grew older, she and Yogesh began to travel across the world. Alongside family, they took safaris in South Africa, visited the stone temples of Cambodia, and stood in awe of the mighty Victoria Falls. Her friends and family were the bedrock of her life. She spent many afternoons chatting with her neighbors over a hot cup of chai. She was a natural storyteller and had a contagious laugh, both of which were on display at a monthly local potluck. A doting grandmother, she adored her two grandsons, Ronin and Viaan, and provided them with an endless supply of snuggles and kisses.

Hina relished the simple aspects of life. She enjoyed an evening summer walk, the last bite of cheesecake, and relaxing with an afternoon nap. She admired natural beauty and loved getting her feet wet in the water. Each year, she bought new outdoor plants, her favorite being the bright vibrant colors of hydrangeas.

Her life was filled with endless joy, positivity, and smiles. When she spoke with anyone she loved, her laughter would bound throughout the house.

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Yogesh Desai; their two children, Vilok Desai and Vasvi (Joey) Mullick; two grandchildren Ronin and Viaan Mullick.

She was the youngest (and possible favorite) of five siblings. Her four surviving siblings are Ashwin (Shama) Amin of Chicago, Devayani (Mukund) Patel of New York City, Chandrika Patel of Dallas and Kirti (Paresh) Patel of Los Angeles; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends who will miss her deeply.

In addition to her parents, Hina was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Kanubhai and Lalitaben Desai, and brother-in-law Girish Patel.

Puja will be held at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, Ohio Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
