MOUNT VERNON — A Fredericktown veterinarian was sentenced to two years of community control Monday after pleading no contest to two domestic violence convictions.

Dr. Phillip R. Dilts, 66, was sentenced in Mount Vernon Municipal Court. As part of a plea agreement, the charge against Dilts for engaging in sexual activity with an animal was dismissed.

Dilts also was sentenced to 180 days in jail on each count of domestic violence with 150 days suspended. In addition, he was ordered to pay $300 in fines.

As part of his sentence, Dilts must comply with all terms and conditions of probation, not violate any laws, complete IOP; GPS monitor for the next 120 days; and have no contact with the alleged victims.

Dilts’ next court date is Dec. 9 for a sentence review hearing. If Dilts isn’t fully compliant with all terms of probation and sentence, Municipal Court Judge John C. Thatcher can impose a 60-day jail sentence.

Dilts must complete counseling through Hands Down and undergo drug and alcohol screening.

In April, Dilts entered a not-guilty plea to misdemeanor charges, which included allegations he had sexual conduct with a Shetland Pony and later injured two people.

During a phone interview, Dilts said the allegations regarding the horse are not true and result from a divorce he and his wife are going through.
