GALION – Buckle up, history lovers and fun seekers. Preserving Galion, Inc. has announced two events that, while different in nature, both tell the stories of the past in unique and entertaining ways at the Gill House.
Johnny Appleseed Day set for July 27
The doors and grounds of the landmark Gill House will open on Saturday, July 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. for Johnny Appleseed Day, an event celebrating the 250th anniversary of Johnny’s birth year and his relationship to our community.
The day will feature a variety of activities and entertainment highlighting apples and fun.
These will include:
- Apple pie and ice cream for guests
- Music and tours of the house, with a number of unique items displayed from personal collections
- A ceremonial apple tree planting, commemorating the Gills’ relationship to Johnny Appleseed
- Activities for children
- A raffle with amazing prizes donated by area businesses and individuals
- A treasure map of Galion pointing out locations where Johnny Appleseed trees are known to have been planted
This will be a day centered on food, fun, and friends. And the cherry on top (or should we say apple)? is that Johnny Appleseed himself might just drop by.

Eerie Galion Walks starts July 26
Last fall’s wildly successful Eerie Galion Walks return this year beginning on the night of Friday, July 26.
Eerie Galion Walks provide a singular experience which can be found nowhere else in north central Ohio. Each walk is an entertaining, often spine-tingling trip back in time, one infused with elements of the unknown.
These walks take participants on a stroll through the streets and sidewalks along Galion’s main street, Harding Way.
Along the path tales of mystery, intrigue, scandal, crime, and the unknown are told in the actual spots where each took place. This year, those stories include newly discovered tales and unbelievable occurrences.
The evening ends at the Gill House for refreshments and, for those who choose, updates on the latest paranormal discoveries there.
Eerie Galion walks are currently scheduled for July 26, Aug. 9, and Aug. 30. Beginning in September they will take place on a regular basis through Halloween.
