WOOSTER — The second time was the charm for Ethan Remy and Dylan Catanese.

The Lexington duo won the Division II state tournament doubles championship Friday afternoon at the College of Wooster, beating Pepper Pike Orange’s Gabi Kalir and Ace Bloom in the finals.

The Lexington team won the state title match in straight sets — 6-2, 7-5.

It was the second state appearance in as many years for the Lex pair. They lost in the opening round last year to Dayton Oakwood’s Arick Baldwin and Noah Boyce.

As fate would have it, Remy and Catanese were matched up against Baldwin and Boyce in Thursday’s opening round.

The Minutemen won the rematch in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) setting the table for a run to the title.

Remy and Catanese secured their place in the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-3 win over University School’s Vishwum Kapadia and Rohit Talasila on Thursday.

They then dispatched Columbus Academy’s Lucas Xue and Rowen Lo (6-1, 6-4) earlier Friday to reach the finals.

Remy and Catanese are Lexington’s first-ever doubles state champs. The team of Toby McCammon and Ward Fisher were the Division I state runners-up in 1991. Mason Dragos won the Division II singles state championship in 2015.
