James Leonard Ignatius Modic, 67, passed away May 8, 2024 surrounded by his family, after a long journey with Multiple Sclerosis. Jim, aka Grumps, tolerated his burden with patience, relying on the Grace of God.

Jim is survived by his wife Diana, daughters Nicole (Grandsons Emerson, Huxley, Hemingway, and Tolkien), Anne, and Margaret, and their significant others. His brothers Edward (Barbara, deceased), Paul (Caroline), Tom (Jane), and William Modic. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Virginia Modic.

Jim was very loved, not only by his family, but many others, including his dear college friends Ed Condon and Joe Camarda, and Theresa and Gary Korte who made weekly visits to bring him the Holy Sacrament of Communion, and Father’s Matt and Kishore who provided spiritual guidance. We would also like to make a special mention to the nurses and aides from Pathways Hospice, who lovingly and compassionately cared for Jim for more than three years and provided invaluable support.

While Jim’s journey with MS was long and arduous, he was a source of connection, laughter, and resilience for those around him. Because of the dedicated care from his wife Diana, and especially his daughter Margaret, he was able to stay in his home and experience family life despite being bedbound for several years. He was always quick to entertain with a joke or a story and truly kept a positive outlook. His presence, witty remarks, literary recitations, contagious smile, and appreciation for a well written comedy will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

Visitation will be at Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Ave, Mansfield, Ohio 44904, on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 4-6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Ave, Mansfield, Ohio 44904, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 11 am.

We thank you for your prayers for Jim for these many years.
