“We had a few hundred people at Shelby Middle School for the auction. It was a great turnout,” said Shelby City Schools, Superintendent Tim Tarvin.
The auction took place at the Shelby Middle School last Saturday morning. Everything that was in the middle school was up for auction, including the gym floor. The school will be getting demolished during middle to late August.
“We made about $30,000 from the auction and the most expensive items that were bought were the two chandeliers in the middle school for $850 a piece,” said Tarvin. Proceeds from the auction were added to the school fund for Shelby.
Tarvin said, “The location of the middle school isn’t ideal because it is in the flood zone and has flooded numerous times throughout the years. This building has served the community extremely well for almost 90 years and it will be missed.”
