LEXINGTON — Ashland’s Makaree Chapman scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Arrows held off a furious second-half rally to drop Lexington 61-57 for a Saturday night road win in Ohio Cardinal Conference action.

The Arrows raced to a 24-14 first-quarter lead, and expanded the margin to 45-21 at halftime.

But Lady Lex responded in the final two quarters, pulling to within 52-36 heading to the final eight minutes. Lexington outscored the Arrows 21-9 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough.

Klaira Paramore and Lillian Pool each chipped in 12 points and Audra McBride registered 16 rebounds to help Ashland (1-3 overall, 1-0 in the OCC) earn its first win of the season.

Lexington (0-3, 0-1) placed four players in double figures. Kaitlyn Delano-Goodman led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds. Madi Basilone had 12 points, Lizzie Hamler added 11 points and Cora Palmer notched 10. Kaleigh Ledbetter grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Arrows host New Philadelphia on Thursday, while Lexington travels to Willard on Tuesday.
