1. Fresh food is just outside your door
When cooking a meal, I can say, “I’m out of onion. I’ll be right back.” Then I grab a basket and walk to my garden. You have to admit that’s pretty cool, and gives a whole new meaning to “Eat Local.”
2. Everyone wants you for their zombie apocalypse survival team.
I am not kidding. And why wouldn’t they want you? Who better to have on hand than someone who knows when to plant seeds, when to harvest produce, and exactly what to do with it once you’ve grown it.
3. Gardeners get winters off.
Winter is all about enjoying those home-canned or dehydrated goodies from your garden; relaxing, baking, and gaining those winter pounds that you will lose as soon as planting season begins.
4. Gardening is great exercise.
Who needs a gym membership when they are hauling mulch, compost, and plants hither and yon? Replace the rowing machine with pulling weeds. Replace the treadmill with something completely unheard of – actually walking outside. No worries about swimsuit season for you – you’ll be fit and trim by the time your garden planted.
5. Kohlrabi
You, and you alone, know what a kohlrabi is, and what to do with it.
