Y-Not Cycling is more than just a place to buy a bicycle. It has maintained a presence in Ohio since 1947 and has always been open to new ideas to expand their business. It is a family-owned and operated bike shop that sells and repairs bicycles and host community rides. Popular brands for sale include Trek, Fisher, Bontrager, Electra, and Mirraco. They also offer a variety of fitness apparel and equipment like treadmills and stationary bicycles.
Dennis and Eric Petersen own and operate the shop. Eric Petersen, Dennis’ son, grew up around the shop. “I grew up here, and I’ve been working here since I was 12, when I was out there sweeping the parking lot,” he said.
Y-Not Cycling holds weekly rides on the B&O Trail for people who are interested. There is no cost to those who own bicycles and rentals are available for $8 per hour. The rides are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Weekend trips are available for groups to ride to places like Salt Fork and Wooster. Y-Not also supports riders and local riding events through promotion.
“We host training sessions on the basics of bike repair, and more in depth sessions are available too,” says Petersen. Being knowledgeable on bicycle repair and maintenance is important to the Petersens. These training sessions on how to maintain and repair bicycles are held twice a month on Saturday mornings.
Y-Not Cycling has two locations in Ohio: 64 East Main Street in Lexington and 133 South Main Street in Mount Vernon. Their hours of operation are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m-5 p.m. Shopping is also available through the website ynotcycling.com or speaking with one of the Petersens directly can be done by dialing 419-884-6135.
