MANSFIELD — An incident at Monro Muffler Brake and Service has resulted in a fatality on Tuesday morning, according to Capt. Doug Noblet of the Mansfield Police Department.
“At this point it appears to be an accident of some sort,” Noblet said. “We’re still doing a preliminary investigation.”
The accident occurred at 1062 Park Avenue West. Charles Thompson, 31, died at the scene, according to the Coroner’s Investigator Tom Stortz.
Noblet said the the nature of the incident appears not to be a crime. The scenario took place in the muffler shop, but Noblet did not release more details.
”We are deeply saddened by the loss of our teammate as the result of an accident and are offering our full cooperation with authorities in Mansfield, Ohio to determine the cause,” the company said in a statement. “We also have begun our own internal review.
“We are committed to the safety and well-being of our employees and extend our thoughts and prayers to our employee’s family and friends.”
Authorities were seen working in the last garage to the left, facing the shop.
“It was just what you would call an industrial workshop accident,” Noblet said. “That is the avenue we are working down at this point until something else shows up.”
