MANSFIELD — Two students allegedly involved with a bomb threat discovered on a bathroom wall at Mansfield Senior High School on Thursday have been arrested, according to the Mansfield Police Department.

The Mansfield City Schools resource officer and Mansfield police detectives began an immediate investigation after the incident. It led to the the arrests of a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old believed to be responsible for the threat of violence towards the school and other students, police Chief Ken Coontz said.

The 16-year-old student is incarcerated in the Richland County Juvenile Facility on a felony charge. Felony charges are pending for the 14-year-old.

Coontz said both students have been suspended from school.

“One of the suspects alleged that it was a hoax to attempt to close down the school for a few days,” Coontz said.

Coontz commended the school staff, patrol officers and detectives for their thorough and immediate action. He added it represents their dedication to preventing threats and violence in school.
