ASHLAND — Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) announced Wednesday his appointment of Ashland City Council member Sandra Tunnell to the Ohio Public Works Commission.

The Public Works Commission provides financing for local public infrastructure improvements through both the State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP) and the Local Transportation Improvement Program (LTIP). SCIP is a grant/loan program for roads, bridges, water supply, wastewater treatment, storm water collection and solid waste disposal. LTIP is a grant program for roads and bridges only.

“Sandra’s knowledge of local infrastructure needs will be an asset to the Public Works Commission as they work to keep Ohio’s roads, bridges and waterways functional and safe,” Obhof said.

Tunnell is in her second term as an Ashland City Council Member representing the 4th Ward and also serves as Executive Director of Ashland Main Street.

“It’s my honor to serve on the Ohio Public Works Commission,” said Tunnell. “I look forward to using my experience to represent the needs of local communities across the state.”

Tunnell is active in several community organizations including the Ashland Public Library, the Ashland Schines Theatre, the United Way, and Ashland County Women of Achievement. She is a recipient of the 2011 Ashland County Woman of Achievement award and a 2012 Leadership Ashland alumna.
