MANSFIELD — Two men were interviewed by Mansfield Police Wednesday afternoon in connection with a shooting on Diamond Street.

According to Lt. Rob Skropits of the Mansfield Police Major Crimes Unit, the department received a call shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday reporting shots in the area of 291 S. Diamond St. The shots were in the area of Ms Lil’s Fish, a downtown seafood restaurant.

“Someone heard shots in the area and there were some cars involved,” Skropits said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they reported one of the two men involved in the shooting was still on scene, and brought on station for an interview. The other man had initially fled the scene, but Skropits said he was brought to the police station at approximately 4:30 p.m.

“We’re in the process of getting his story,” Skropits said. “We’re still in the early stages of the investigation.”

A published report stated 12 shots were fired, but Mansfield Police would not confirm that. Skropits did say there were no injuries connected to the shooting.

Once the Mansfield Police Department is finished with the investigation, any charges will be determined by the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.
