Thanks to the collaborated efforts of The North Central Ohio Guidance Counselor Association and The Ohio State University Mansfield, a number of colleges are coming to Richland County to provide resources for prospective students. The annual College Night Fair will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the recreation center, courtesy of the Mansfield Campus of The Ohio State University and North Central State College

“This is a great opportunity for high school junior and senior students beginning their college search to have access to several colleges, face to face in a local setting,” said North Central State College spokesperson Keith Stoner.

This year’s event will provide students access to colleges and universities from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Indiana and North Carolina in what is believed to be the largest college night in North Central Ohio. In addition to the schools, recruiters from all military branches and several college funding institutions will also be in attendance to provide information. The event is free and will take place in the Campus Recreation Center. The center is located at  1760 University Dr., Mansfield.

A financial aid planning session is also scheduled for students and parents at 7:30 p.m. during the event.

According to Colin Palmer, Admissions Counselor at OSU-M the goal of the fair is to expose local high school students to the many options available to them during their college search.

“I would like for students of the Richland County area to know they have options and to have the opportunity to meet with educational professionals face to face and ask the questions they need to ask,” explained Palmer.

Approximately one hundred colleges will be represented and three to four hundred students are expected to attend the fair and benefit from the resources and contacts that will be made available to them.

College bound students will be able to walk around the gymnasium, browse booths, and have individual conversations with representatives at the fair. Students are able to speak with as many colleges as they would like during the 90 minute period.

Palmer added,”We are all about college access and are pleased to be hosting this event.”

The admissions counselor also added that he believes an important factor of the fair is for all of the students, parents and colleges involved to find best fit for each student during their college search.

For more information students are encouraged to contact their school guidance office.
