GALION – The bridge project on state Route 598 in Galion at Portland Way is completed and the bridge is open to traffic. According to Mayor Tom O’Leary the bridge finished a little ahead of schedule on Friday, Nov. 14, prior to the Monday, Nov. 17 deadline.

O’Leary said the timing of the bridge project was the best part of the Portland Way widening project. The rest is behind schedule. The south side of Portland Way needs striping for three lanes and “the lane assignments need to be tweaked.”

On the north side of the project, sidewalks need to be installed and driveways need to be replaced. The Subway parking lot needs some repair as well. The mayor hopes some of the north side of the project can be completed before the end of the year, especially the sidewalks.

As for the temporary road leading into the Geyer’s parking lot, the mayor expects that will be removed yet this year. The one-way road was only a temporary fix for the bridge closure.
