MANSFIELD — An 83-year-old man has become Richland County’s ninth death due to COVID-19, Richland Public Health announced Thursday.
The man contracted coronavirus while living in a congregate care setting, according to RPH public health educator Reed Richmond. The man did have a pre-existing medical conditions.
Richmond said the man tested positive for COVID-19 on July 13 and RPH was notified of his death Thursday.
“The staff at Richland Public Health extends their sympathies to his family and friends,” Richmond said.
Five of the county’s deaths have been linked to nursing home or long-term residential care facilities, as well as 45 of the total positive tests.
The Ohio Department of Health COVID-19 website, updated Wednesday, showed there there were three residents and six staff members in Richland County nursing homes or assisted living facilities with current cases this week.
One of the remaining four deaths involved a Richland County man who contracted the virus while working at the Marion Correctional Institution.
Other Richland County deaths were reported July 15, July 14, June 24, June 22, June 2, May 20, April 17 and April 8.
The ODH reported Thursday afternoon the county has had 465 positive tests for COVID-19 with 67 total hospitalizations and 377 presumed recoveries.
