MANSFIELD — Richland County commissioners have hired a 30-year law enforcement officer to serve as the county’s new dog warden, starting Thursday.
Dane Howard brings to Richland a diverse law enforcement background spanning more than 30 years, which includes eight years as the Huron County Sheriff (2009-2017).
He currently works as the property room manager inside the Richland County Sheriff’s Department crime lab.
“Dane’s experience as a K-9 Officer and high level manager overseeing multi-million dollar budgets made the commissioners’ selection an easy one. His unique experience along with his current status as a County employee will make Richland’s transition to a new Dog Warden a seamless one,” commissioners said in a written statement.
Howard and his wife, Peggy, of 32 years share a love of dogs. They have a 2-year old Great Pyrenees named Shire and a 10-year old Pomeranian named Tasha.
“I am very excited to be Richland County’s new dog warden. I look forward to being part of the team and I hope to have a positive impact on Richland’s dog community,” Howard said in a statement.
