The Bucyrus Redmen football team will host its annual powerlifting in Alex Kish Memorial gymnasium Saturday morning.

BUCYRUS – The Bucyrus Redmen football team will host its annual Bucyrus Redmen Powerlifting Meet in Alex Kish Memorial gymnasium Saturday, Feb 2.

“This has become one of the largest powerlifting meets in Ohio,” Bucyrus coach Aaron Eckert said. “It’s a great opportunity for our student-athletes, as well as student-athletes from the area, to show how hard they have been working in the weight room.”

Weigh-ins for male and female competitors in grades seven through 12 will take place between 8 and 9 a.m., with the competition beginning at 10 a.m.

Student-athletes will compete in bench press, deadlift and squat competitions. Lifters will compete in one of four categories: heavy weight, middleweight, lightweight and middle school. Schools confirmed to compete in the competition include: Bucyrus, Cardington, Colonel Crawford, Crooksville, Galion, Kent Roosevelt, Margaretta, Mount Gilead, Northmor, Oregan Clay, Seneca East, South Central and Western Reserve.

Officials say many other teams will arrive and participate the day of competition.

Powerlifting meets provide athletes with an exciting, yet competitive opportunity to stay fit and active during the offseason. Please contact Coach Eckert at aeckert@bucyrusschools.org for additional details and information.
