Scheduling time to rest, recharge and connect is a priority for many couples and families. A destination exists in Richland County to help guests leave their busy lives behind.
Bullfrog Mountain cabins, situated on 12 wooded acres in Butler, provide the setting for relaxing, year-round getaways. Guests find the cabins comfortable, charming and cozy. Many visitors return every year for needed rest time.
Christine Collins, of Windham, Ohio, enjoys staying at Livi’s Cottage with her husband Tom. Each of their stays becomes sweeter than the last as they connect with each other and visit with owners Mike and Kathy Cretella.
“Some of our dreams for these cabins were to provide an economical way for anyone to get away to celebrate life’s best moments,” Kathy Cretella said. “We love the idea of pulling people away from their phones and computers so they can connect with each other in a peaceful setting.”
After four stays in three years, Livi’s Cottage feels like coming home for the Collinses. The personal touches and hospitality attract them each year.
Jennifer McGuire, of Highland Heights, visits Bullfrog Mountain every year with her two sisters. After three stays, they look forward to stepping away from their busy lives to relax.
“From the moment you walk in, it is so welcoming, McGuire said. “The surroundings are quiet. There are not words to adequately describe the entire experience.”
Bullfrog Mountain proves to be an adventurous location for families with young children as well.
David Brewster, of Delaware, Ohio, searched for winter weekend getaway locations with hot tubs close to Mohican State Park. Bullfrog Mountain appeared early in his Internet search. David first visited with his wife and two children ages 4 and 6.
The Brewsters have visited six times and stayed in both Sleepy Hollow and Livi’s Cottage. They even invited another family to join them during their last two summer visits.
“It feels like we’re staying at a family member’s house. We have grown to become good friends over the years,” Brewster said. “They put so much care and effort into making sure that your stay is memorable. They’re extremely kind people, very family oriented, and it shows in everything that they do around the cabins.”
Brewster said Mike and Kathy have made recommendations for bike trails and hiking spots. “I can appreciate their enthusiasm when it comes to the outdoors.”
The Collinses appreciate that the already reasonable prices have not increased in years. They also enjoy a returning guest discount.
“Even if they didn’t have the discount, we would go in a heartbeat,” Christine said. “It is nice to be in a home-like setting without the chores requiring our attention. Plus, the kitchen is well equipped so it makes it fun to create meals there. It is our chance to escape from life for a while.”
Guests say the cabins are well-stocked and extremely clean.
“They are beautiful cabins all around,” Brewster said. “They are perfect for those evenings when the stars come out when you’re lying in bed listening to the night sounds.”
“We love the sheets and towels,” Collins said. “Kathy and Mike seem to have thought of everything.”
The property features a clean spring-fed pond with a paddle boat. The central location of the cabins appeals to those planning to enjoy the outdoors by hiking, fishing, biking or skiing. Pleasant Hill Lake, Malabar Farm, Mohican State Park and Snow Trails are all a short drive from Bullfrog Mountain. Many guests also visit Amish Country and antique stores nearby.
“Our days were filled with hiking and time spent sightseeing at the various attractions in the area,” Brewster said. “At night we would make dinner, watch movies, play games, and hop into the hot tub (which was the big favorite). Of course, there was always the nightly fire in the fire pit outside the cabins.”
The Brewsters enjoy visiting the nearby town of Loudonville during their stays. “We enjoy walking through the streets and going in and out of the shops. There always seems to be some sort of festival or event going on in the area, especially during the summer months.”
The cabins create an ideal setting for a variety of occasions. A few small weddings, “momcations,” family reunions, anniversary celebrations, birthday parties, and college study sessions have taken place at Bullfrog Mountain Cabin Rentals.
“I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a romantic getaway or time with family or old friends,” Brewster said. “It’s a great opportunity to get off the beaten path.”
Brewster is already planning his next trip.
“It has become our annual get together with some close friends,” he said. “It seems like every time we come home we feel well rested, content and excited to get back.”
