Marilyn John is leading Ohio in the wrong direction.
I attended a townhall last evening that spoke about the current school funding crisis in Ohio. The presenters spoke of solutions that promoted both state and local tax revenue to adequately fund schools based on their needs.
A plan was in place to fund our public schools. Instead, the current Republicans in our statehouse have deliberately not followed the plan. They have also started to dump more and more money into private school vouchers.
Breaking down our public school has been a slow and deliberate plan from our statehouse officials over decades. They have shifted less of our business property tax dollars out of supporting education and onto local property taxes.
They have flat taxed income , meaning one singular tax bracket for everyone, to ensure that the very wealthy do not have to contribute more money in supporting our schools.
Marilyn John has touted Ohio as being the best state for business. Public education cannot be for profit–it cannot be a business. Public education was written in Ohio’s founding constitution and it clearly states only public education should receive tax dollars.
Marilyn John even went to Plymouth High School. The very thing that gave her an education is the same thing she is not wanting to adequately fund.
This is not about her being a Republican. This is about her not supporting public education. It does not matter what side of the aisle you are on. If you don’t support our children, we should not support you.
