David Lee Callahan, 85, of Galion, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Dave was born on August 16, 1941, in West Liberty, Kentucky, to the late McKinley and Eva (Caskey) Callahan. On August 17, 2023, Dave married Jean (Patterson), and she survives in Galion.

A hardworking man throughout his life, Dave spent his entire career as a truck driver. He enjoyed life on the road and continued working well beyond the traditional retirement age, finally hanging up the keys and retiring at the age of 80.

When he wasn’t behind the wheel, Dave enjoyed working with his hands and had a talent for crafts and wood carving. He was also a gifted musician with a special love for gospel music. Dave enjoyed playing music and singing gospel songs, sharing his talents and his faith through the music he loved.

Above all, Dave treasured time spent with his family. He especially enjoyed being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the time he shared with those he loved provided him with some of his greatest joy.

Dave’s memories will be cherished by his wife, Jean; children: Ritchie Callahan and Robin Hall, both of Jeffersonville, KY; step-children: Randy Ratliff and Terry Ratliff; sister: Sue Caskey; grandchildren: Austin Cantrell, Travis (Kayela) Hall, Haylee Fouch, Danny Callahan, and Shalana Callahan; step-grandchildren: Bret Ratliff, Shaylee Ratliff, Shyiah Ratliff, Shandi Ratliff, and Dominic Ratliff; great-grandchildren: Lucy Hall, Liam Hall, Oliva Hall, Skylah Callahan, and Mia Callahan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Callahan; siblings: Elizabeth Crisp, Pauline Hunt, Lawrence Callahan, Ova Callahan, McKinnley Callahan, Jr., Donald Callahan, Oley Callahan, Byron Callahan, and Glen Callahan; and grandson, Jeremy Callahan.

Friends and family may call on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Gospel Church, 326 1st Ave., Galion. A service will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Rick Cox.
