Richard Earl Pass, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born October 26, 1933, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to Harry John and Dorothy (Guisler) Pass. He was a graduate of Malone College and dedicated much of his life to serving others through his faith and his work.
Richard served as pastor of First Friends Church in Mansfield for many years and even was appointed Pastor Emeritus. His love for God and his desire to share his faith were evident throughout his life. He was known for incorporating chalk art into his sermons, using his artistic ability as a unique and memorable way to communicate with others.
In 1964, Richard began working at the Ohio State Reformatory, where he served as a social worker until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement, he continued working as a driver and driver coordinator for Graham Auto Mall.
Richard was a man who loved people and was a friend to all. He was deeply concerned for his community and always willing to lend a helping hand. Above all, he treasured his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially playing games together.
In his younger years, Richard enjoyed bowling, golf, and softball. He especially enjoyed playing horseshoes and could often be found enjoying the simple pleasures of time spent with family and friends. He also loved playing his accordion and sharing his many talents with others.
Richard leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, friendship, and love for his family. His life touched many people, and he will be remembered as a faithful servant of God and a friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his children of Rachel; Mark and Vicki, children of Ramona; Patti (Bob) and Connie (Lee), and children of Hazel; John (Barb) and Joni (Gene); brother Van (Doris); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beloved family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and children Sandy (Bill), Steve (Rhonda) and Jerry (Kim); siblings Dorothy, Evelyn (Bob) and Arthur.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Lexington Avenue Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes where a funeral service celebrating Richard’s life will begin promptly at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Windsor Park Cemetery in Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mansfield First Friends Church.
