PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth Fire & EMS Department building stands silver and striped with red doors, newly renovated.
Councilman Matthew Patrick announced the final touches on the touchups at the beginning of an otherwise brief village council meeting.
“The fire station is completed,” Patrick said. “We went through, saw some things we didn’t like and had them fixed … It looks absolutely great.”
Renovations began a couple of months ago, Patrick said.
“We cleaned and painted … and then we had a couple of companies come in to check the infrastructure of the building,” Patrick said. “We needed quite a bit of tuck-pointing (replacing or fixing damaged mortar on bricks), and then it was in pretty good shape.”
The Fire & EMS Department sits at 911 Mary Fate Park Dr. During renovations, its equipment was housed at the Plymouth Village Fire Department at 184 Sandusky St.
Now, with renovations to the inside complete, equipment can return.
“One of our biggest concerns is safety,” Patrick said. “Because we’re driving riders out on (Route) 61, all the way out of town, to where the old building is, we thought it was more feasibly safe to move everything into the village.
“It’d be more feasible to have the (fire department) right here in town … when you have to go get something, you have to make time to run out there and back, (then) you waste 30 minutes. So we’re right here in town.”
The fire department was the largest part of the legislation in the meeting.
Following Patrick’s announcement, council moved to approve the appointment of Camden McCoy as a volunteer and part-time firefighter and EMT. McCoy’s volunteer hourly wage is set at $10.76 and his part-time hourly wage is $14.11.
The other fire-related legislation on the agenda was a three-year contract with C. B. & S. Joint Fire District at 11 N. Delaware St. in Shiloh.
The proposed agreement provides for supplemental EMS response and many more provisions necessary to protect public health and safety.
