Leonard “Lenny” Gerhardt was born on January 20, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and passed away on August 21, 2026, in Butler, Ohio.
He lived a life defined by faith, family, friendship, craftsmanship, and a genuine appreciation for people.
Raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lenny developed a strong faith in God that remained with him throughout his life. As a young man, he attended Adventist boarding school, where he thrived and formed many lifelong friendships that he treasured for decades.
Lenny often said he was the luckiest man alive. He adored his children and took great pride in their accomplishments, but what meant the most to him was seeing them grow into good, caring, and decent people. His grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to his life, and spending time with them was among his greatest blessings.
Family was always at the heart of Lenny’s life. He loved large family gatherings filled with great food, laughter, and love. Those occasions created countless memories and reflected what mattered most to him: staying connected with the people he loved.
Lenny fondly remembered his years as a Little League coach and umpire. He enjoyed mentoring young athletes and remained in touch with many of the players he coached. The relationships he built through baseball were a testament to his caring nature and his ability to make a lasting impact on others.
A gifted carpenter, Lenny enjoyed a remarkable career that took him across the United States, from Miami, Florida, to Anchorage, Alaska. Alongside a close friend, he crafted furniture from exotic woods and developed a reputation for exceptional workmanship. His skills brought him many opportunities, including having custom furniture in an art show at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. In addition to building homes, he created beautifully carved doors and signs that showcased both his artistry and craftsmanship.
Lenny approached life with a positive attitude and a deep appreciation for every day. He loved telling stories, sharing laughs, and meeting new people. Family members often joked that Lenny could make a new friend anywhere, even while pumping gas. His warmth, kindness, and easygoing nature made people feel instantly welcome.
Lenny was truly one of a kind and will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, dedication to his craft, generosity of spirit, and ability to bring people together.
Lenny was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Gerhardt, and his beloved grandson, Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Gerhardt; his children, Isaac Gerhardt, Gus Gerhardt and his wife Amanda, Cody Gerhardt and his wife Sarah, and Gretchen Gerhardt and her husband Tim; his grandchildren, Foster, Haylee, Harrison, Colton, Keller, Ava, Marlee, Dalen, Gracie, Grant, and Jack; his sister, Paula Stewart; his nephew, Eddy Stewart and family; his brother-in-law, Mike Abbott and family; ex-wives Dixie & Patricia, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Lenny’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the friendships he made, the family he cherished, and the stories that will continue to be shared for generations.
No formal services will be observed.
