MANSFIELD — Recent Shelby High School graduate Natalie Korbas and Ontario High School graduate Hayden Saxton are the winners of the 2026 Rumpke Waste & Recycling Scholarship for Richland County.

This scholarship awards $1,000 to two graduates in Richland County, pursuing a two- or four-year degree at an accredited institution, including vocational/trade schools.

Winners are chosen based on their commitment to their academics, environmental stewardship and desire to serve the community. Natalie plans to study Civil Engineering at the University of Akron. After graduating, she plans to work for an engineering firm or start her own business.

As the only female in her engineering courses, Natalie learned that she could overcome any challenge.

“Realizing that I enjoy hands-on work and learning, communicating with others and solving problems has propelled me to major in Civil Engineering,” Natalie writes in her application essay.

Natalie’s involvement in4-H and the FFA organization as chapter president set the foundation of her communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.

“Natalie’s incredible work ethic and resilience will take her far,” said Rumpke Regional Vice President TJ Rose. “We are proud to award her with this scholarship to help with her academic aspirations.”

Hayden Saxton plans to study marketing at the University of Cincinnati or Miami University. After completing his undergrad, she plans to become a Creative Marketing Specialist.

Hayden’s passion for art inspired her career path and has allowed her to embrace her creativity and develop a flexible mindset when solving problems.

“Unlike other subjects where there is one correct answer, I had the freedom to explore ideas, think outside the box and solve my own work visually,” Hayden writes in her application essay.

“Art has taught me that innovative thinking is an essential skill, which has encouraged me to approach ‘mistakes’ with an open mindset.”

Passionate about her community, Hayden’s involvement in clubs such as Warrior Leadership Council, Key Club, National Honor Society and Drug Free Seniors allowed her to give back through volunteer opportunities and setting a positive example for younger students.

“We deeply admire Hayden’s commitment to serving her community and taking on leadership responsibilities that positively impact others,” said Rumpke Regional Vice President T.J. Rose. “We’re proud to help contribute to her goals with this scholarship award.

“Congratulations, Natalie and Hayden. We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors!”
