SHELBY — Shelby High School graduated 153 members in the Class of 2026 on Sunday afternoon in the high school gymnasium, including the 17,000th graduate in the history of the school.

Principal John Gies, who is retiring, welcomed a packed gymnasium to the school’s 151st commencement exercises.

Supt. Michael Browning introduced the commencement speaker — 2009 Shelby High School graduate, teacher, author and comedian Grayson Murray.

Senior Katherine Taylor delivered the valedictorian address.

The school symphonic band performed and the school’s chamber choir performed “Blackbird” and “Fix You.”

The class motto was, “Sometimes you never know the value of a movement until it becomes a memory” by Dr. Seuss.
