MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra invites audiences to experience a night where cinematic legend meets classical brilliance with Star Wars and The Planets, presented Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Theatre as part of the OhioHealth Symphony Series.

This one-night-only performance explores the powerful connection between composer John Williams and Gustav Holst, whose groundbreaking orchestral suite The Planets directly influenced the iconic score of Star Wars.

Audiences will gain a deeper appreciation for how Holst’s sweeping, celestial themes helped shape the sound of a galaxy far, far away.

Under the direction of Music Director Octavio Más-Arocas, the concert features Holst’s The Planets, Op. 32, a vivid musical journey through the solar system, alongside selections from Star Wars: The Force Awakens by John Williams. From the ominous power of “Mars” to the ethereal mystery of “Neptune,” paired with the instantly recognizable themes of Star Wars, this program offers a thrilling blend of classical and cinematic storytelling.

Patrons of all ages are encouraged to enhance the experience by dressing as their favorite Star Wars characters, making this an engaging and immersive evening for families, film fans, and symphony lovers alike.

“This concert offers something truly special,” said Más-Arocas. “It connects audiences to the roots of one of the most beloved film scores of all time while showcasing the brilliance of Holst’s original work that John Williams noted as a significant source of inspiration when composing the score for Star Wars.”
