Helen Marie Sevits, age 93, of Mansfield, died early Easter morning, April 5, 2026 at home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.
Helen was born on February 23, 1933 in Mansfield to Edwin and Alta Straub. Helen graduated from St Peter’s Catholic School and had a career in the banking industry, where she started her career as a bank teller, working her way up the ladder and then on to a Credit Union Manager. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mansfield.
Helen was very resilient, tenacious and determined. She was very frugal – she loved nothing better than getting a good deal or saving money. She had a passion for gardening and watching and feeding the birds. Helen also loved spending quality time with her family, who will deeply miss her.
She is survived by a daughter, Bobbi Ann (Randy K) Snyder of Mansfield with whom she lived with for the last 5 ½ years; son, Edwin Randolph Sevits of Albemarle, NC; one grandson, Joseph Sevits (Ashley Wagner) of Raleigh, NC; three granddaughters, Holly Huffman (Josh Tolchinsky) of Cincinnati; Heidi Caires of Cortland, OH; and Christiana (Josh) Williams of Rural Hall, NC; and three great-granddaughters, Eden Caires, Elinor Caires and Adele Zistler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Sevits; brother, Phillip Straub; sisters Rita Roycraft, Sister Grace Straub, and Patricia Straub.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mansfield on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 11:00. Visiting hours will be one hour before service at the church. Interment will follow in Mansfield Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Helen requested that memorial contributions may be made to either St Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004 or St Mary’s Catholic Church, 1630 Ashland Rd, Mansfield, OH 44905.
