PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Area Historical Society will host its biennial Quilt Show on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Plymouth Museum, 7 E. Main St. in Plymouth.
This year’s theme is “250 Years of American Quilting” to coincide with America’s Semiquincentennial.
Organizers Shirley Wolf and Crystal Scott are seeking historic quilts that predate the 1900’s like “Streets of Philadelphia” and the “Log Cabin” patterns that emerged in the late1800’s.
Quilts that illustrate any of the popular patterns from the early decades of the 20th century, such as “Double Wedding Ring;” “Dresden Plate;” “Sunbonnet Sue” and “Grandmother’s Flower Garden,” are also desired as are quilts with patriotic designs
A special feature at the Plymouth Museum is the Ohio Bicentennial Quilt that was created in 2003 for the state’s 200th anniversary.
Displayed in the Ohio Statehouse during Ohio’s Bicentennial Celebration, this uniquely beautiful piece of art comprises squares contributed by quilters from all 88 counties.
The quilt is now on permanent display on the main floor of the Plymouth Museum along with a guide that explains the significance of each square.
Visitors to the quilt show will also have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a one-of-a-kind quilt created by Linda Flores of Willard.
Called a “Frankenstein Quilt,” it was made from scraps contributed by members of the Plymouth Quilting Club. Flores pieced and quilted the final product which is on display in the museum. Tickets are $5 each or 10 for $45.
Exhibitors may drop off their quilts at the museum from July 27 to 29 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Those who desire further information should contact Shirley Wolf at 419-687-2061 or Crystal Scott at 440-724-1948.
The Plymouth Area Museum is open every Saturday throughout the summer from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
