Mary Louise (Lehnhart) Dowsett’s life was a quiet reflection of Matthew 22:37-39. She loved and served the Lord with her whole heart. This was evident in the love, grace and selflessness she extended to her family, friends and all who knew her. She heard her Savior, Jesus Christ, say “well done” on July 7, 2026, as she passed away from cancer at the age of 85.

Mary was born on September 4, 1940, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Elmer and D. Marie (Thomas) Lehnhart. She spent her life rooted in the Lexington community, where she was known for her quiet kindness, devotion to her family and caring heart.

On June 4, 1960, she married Robert L. Dowsett. Together they shared 66 years of marriage, building a home centered on love, faith, and family. As a homemaker, Mary found great fulfillment in caring for her family and helping her children. Mary was an excellent cook and baker. She had a knack for “growing the soup”, a phrase she coined when she would add to the soup she made the night before to stretch it for another meal, but would end up adding enough for three meals. She also tended to flower and vegetable gardens.

Mary and Bob enjoyed traveling together on road trips, creating lasting memories as they explored both new and familiar places. Most important to Mary was her relationship with Jesus Christ and spending time in God’s Word. She was an active member of Grace Church in Lexington, serving in many roles over the years including in the women’s, missions and children’s ministries.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert L. Dowsett; along with her daughters, Susan (Rick) Roberts, Barbara (John) Dannemiller, Nancy (Douglas) Brumenshenkel and Julie (Rich) Barncord; grandchildren, Tessa, Stephanie, Kyle, Rachel, Brett, Monica, Alex, Lee and Ellise; five great-grandchildren, with another on the way; sister Phyllis Mueller; brother-in-law, Jim (June) Dowsett as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and D. Marie Lehnhart; sister, Doris Ann Walker and brothers-in-law, Jim Walker and Fred Mueller.

Mary’s family will receive guests on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 10 am to 12 pm in the Lexington Avenue Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes. Her homegoing will be celebrated at 12 pm, officiated by Pastor Nathaniel Foote. A graveside service will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to Turning Point for God (Dr. David Jeremiah’s ministry) or Grace Church of Lexington.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice and Lexington Court Care Center for the compassion shown to Mary during her final days.
