MANSFIELD — The City of Mansfield has announced its participation in the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) electric aggregation program, providing residents and small businesses access to competitive electric supply options negotiated exclusively for NOPEC customers.

Eligible residents and small business customers are receiving enrollment letters in the mail explaining NOPEC’s electric program options, rates, and enrollment details.

The letters will also include information on how customers may opt out of the program if they choose. The mailing of these notices is required by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) for all eligible customers in NOPEC member communities.

At the beginning of this month, opt-out letters for the City of Mansfield’s electric aggregation program were mailed to eligible residential and small business customers.

The letters are being distributed by the City’s current aggregation supplier, NOPEC, as required by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).

Customers do not need to take any action to participate. Eligible customers will automatically be enrolled in NOPEC’s Standard Program Price unless they select one of NOPEC’s other available options.

Additional program choices include:

  • A monthly variable rate discounted from the utility’s price to compare.
  • 12 or 24-month fixed-rate plans.
  • 100% renewable energy options.

NOPEC’s current electricity rates are set through October 2026. Customers also have the option to lock into the current rate for 12 months with no termination fee, providing flexibility and price stability.

Customers who choose not to lock into a fixed-term option will receive updated rates when new pricing becomes available in October.

Starting in July, customers enrolled in the program will receive electric supply service through NOPEC/NextEra Energy Services.

Customers will continue to receive only one utility bill. Importantly, there will be no interruption in electric service because of this change. Ohio Edison will continue to:

  • Deliver electricity.
  • Maintain power lines.
  • Read meters.
  • Send monthly bills.
  • Restore power during outages.

The City views participation in the NOPEC program as an opportunity to provide residents and businesses with additional energy supply options and access to competitive electricity rates through a trusted regional organization that serves communities throughout Ohio.

Residents and business owners who do not wish to participate in the aggregation program may opt out by completing and returning the form included with their enrollment letter by the deadline indicated. The form may also be faxed to 440-774-4422.

NOPEC will have a Community Outreach Meeting on Thursday, June 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers.
