LEXINGTON — Jaxin Stancombe will get a chance to add to his All-Ohio collection.
The Madison senior finished fourth in the shot put competition during Friday’s Division II Lexington regional tournament, punching his ticket to next week’s state meet.
If he finishes in the top eight in Columbus, Stancombe would become an All-Ohioan in a second sport. He’s a two-time state placer in wrestling.
“It could happen if I pop a good one,” said Stancombe, who uncorked a throw of 53 feet, 4 inches Friday. “I’m pretty happy with how it ended up.
“I’ve gotten further than I expected, so I’m going to go down and enjoy it.”
Stancombe won’t travel to Columbus by himself. Madison’s 4×400 relay team of Jayden Hall, Camden Moysi, Daniel Norris and Julius Walker took fourth in 3:23.87.
Lexington’s Latrell Hughes will get the chance to defend his state title in the 800. The Oregon-bound senior won a regional title in 1:52.99.
“It was my first time racing regionals at my home track,” Hughes said. “I just wanted to come here and have a good race for my last time racing here.”
Hughes will also have a chance to defend a state title in the 4×800 relay. The quartet of Trevor Reed, Nathan Reed, Will Hooper and Hughes won the regional title Wednesday in 7:48.68.
Lexington’s Eli Barr will also make the trip to Columbus after placing fourth in the pole vault on Wednesday with a vault of 13-feet.
