“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear”.
John R. Marsh entered into eternal peace with our Heavenly Father on May 6, 2026. Born on August 15, 1935 to Edwin and Camille Marsh in Oak Park, IL, John was the youngest of three children. John was quite the storyteller. Whether it was talking about the Great Depression, surviving Scarlett Fever, collecting paper to help with World War II efforts, going to Oak Park High School with the Mafia Princess, going to Grinnell College in Iowa and earning his Bachelor’s in Psychology, being in the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Artillery Training in Colorado Springs, or traveling around the United States, Mexico, and Canada, John had a fascinating story for it. But his favorite stories came from Bass Lake, Indiana where he spent every summer with his grandparents helping at their bed and breakfast, The Sunset Inn, before becoming a life guard there on summer breaks from college.
John eventually met his wife of almost 30 years, Sue, on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. They married in February of 1969 and began a family, moving back to Indiana and then eventually settling in Ohio. They shared many adventures raising four children together. John enjoyed being an entrepreneur and started many businesses in his lifetime, but he also spent a lot of time working on his Model T, building model cars, woodworking, and reading everything, especially books about ghosts and the Civil War. He worked hard to provide for his family. He enjoyed helping his sons build soapbox derby cars, and watching all of his kids play sports.
John owned the Ohio Toner Cartridge Company for 20 years, which kept him busy and active in his later years.
John is survived by his children, Devin (Sara) Marsh of Columbus, David (Lori) Marsh of Mansfield, Julie Marsh of Ontario, and Jennifer (Spencer) Bay of Lexington. John also has five grandchildren: Jacob (Ashley) Marsh, Allison (Sloan) Bowman, Regan Freiheit, Sunshine and Rory Kahl; one great-grandchild, and another great grandchild on the way.
There will be no services at this time. The family will scatter his ashes at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, a charity close to his heart.
Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario is honored to serve the family.
