Douglas Jay Snyder, age 56, of Shelby, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Ohio Health Hospital in Mansfield.
Doug was born on April 13, 1970, in Galion, Ohio, to Edwin and Lauretta (Long) Snyder. He was raised on a farm in Galion, where he learned the value of hard work, deep faith, and the importance of family-values that shaped the man he became and carried with him throughout his life. He graduated from Colonel Crawford High School in 1988, and soon after, followed his sense of adventure to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he spent time close to his brother, Gary.
In 2000, Doug returned home to Crawford County-and it was there that his life truly changed when he met, Sue Lovelace, at church. From the very beginning, their connection was undeniable. They quickly became inseparable, building a relationship rooted in faith, love, and genuine friendship. Doug knew he had found something special in Sue, and together they created a life filled with devotion and joy.
The two were united in marriage on December 22, 2001, in a ceremony that perfectly reflected Doug’s spirit. In a moment that family and friends will never forget, Doug surprised everyone by walking down the aisle on his hands-a lighthearted and unforgettable expression of his strength, humor, and unique personality. It was a glimpse into the joy he brought to those around him and the love he shared so freely.
Doug was currently employed with Seigneur Fox Construction Company, where he was incredibly skilled at laying floor tile and did so with pride and dedication
Doug’s life was rooted in a deep and unwavering faith in the Lord. His faith wasn’t just something he spoke about-it was something he lived every day. He had a calm, steady spirit that grounded those around him, especially his beloved wife, Sue. Through every challenge, Doug was her rock-her best friend, her biggest supporter, and the one who always reminded her to trust in God’s plan.
He had a natural gift for athletics and a lifelong commitment to staying active and healthy. Whether he was playing pickleball, lifting weights, or going for a walk or run, Doug found joy in movement and discipline. In quieter moments, he loved getting lost in a good book-especially his favorite Jack Reacher novels-or listening to science and health podcasts. His curiosity and knowledge earned him the affectionate nickname “Dr. Doug” among family and friends, a reflection of both his intelligence and his willingness to share what he knew.
More than anything, Doug will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous heart, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and quiet kindness that will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents Edwin and Lauretta, of Mansfield, he is survived by his beloved wife & best friend of 24 years, Sue (Lovelace) Snyder; their goddaughter, Ella DeLauder; siblings, Gary (Shelly) Snyder of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Lisa (Chris) Hale of Lancaster, California; nephews, Brandon and Garrett Snyder of Florida, Michael Lovelace; nieces, Joanna (Mark) Deskin, Megan Hale, and Sarah Hale all of Florida; as well as countless friends who will miss him deeply.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Carolyn (Wagner) Snyder; maternal grandparents, Daniel and Lois (Neff) Long; father-in-law, Fred Lovelace, and mother-in-law, Audrey (Dieberger) Lovelace.
