MANSFIELD — Shelby’s Madison Henkel isn’t in mid-season form.

The reigning Division II long jump state champ already is in postseason form.

Henkel established a new personal record and broke her own meet record with a leap of 19-feet, 5.5 inches at Saturday’s 94th Mehock Invitational at Malabar Intermediate School.

Unofficially, it’s the best jump in the state so far this spring.

“I’m not happy unless I get (19 feet),” said Henkel, who won her third Mehock long jump gold. “My standards are pretty high for myself.”

Saturday’s meet was contested in less than ideal weather conditions. A strong cross wind blew and a steady rain fell most of the afternoon.

What’s more, Henkel was competing in just her second outdoor meet of the season.

“I’ve had some hamstring problems over the last few weeks,” she said. “I’ve been trying to (rest) and get back.”

Henkel also ran a leg on Shelby’s winning 4×100 relay, teaming up with Princess Timko, Ashley Montgomery and Karlie Walp. The quartet won in 49.87.

Timko won the 100 dash in a PR 12.25.

Clear Fork’s Taylor Bly was a three-time champ Saturday. She won the 200 (26.26) and the 400 (59.20) and anchored the winning 4×400 relay team. The foursome of Katie Beck, Quinn Stover, Eliana Pelkey and Bly won in 4:10.30.

Ashland’s Sadie Walter swept the hurdles. She won the 100s in a PR 14.99 and the 300s in 47.85.

Lexington’s Katya Prykhodko captured a pair of Mehock golds. She won the 3,200 in a PR 11:29.35 and teamed with Haley Davies, Brailey Slone and Jenna Halfhill to win the 4×800 in 10:31.99.

Lexington’s Mia Twedt won the 1,600 in a PR 5:17.96.

Shelby’s Braylee Sturts won the discus with a throw of 123-2.

Crestview’s Zoe Kuhn won the pole vault (10-0).

Fremont Ross won the girls team title with 106 points. Ashland (100.5) was second and Lexington (92) was third.

Boys

Lexington’s Latrell Hughes won a pair of Mehock golds, leading the Minutemen to a runner-up finish.

Fremont Ross won the team title with 118.5 points. Lex finished with 111, while Clear Fork and Ashland tied for third with 86.5.

Hughes won the 800 in 1:53.24. He teamed with Will Hooper, Kingston Peterson and Chidalu Ezike to win the 4×400 in 3:28.82.

Hooper was also a member of Lex’s winning 4×800 relay team. He teamed with Drew Hooper, Christian Estep and Trevor Reed.

Lexington’s Luke Haring won the 3,200 in 9:57.16.

Clear Fork’s Ethan Beck won the 400 in 51.14, while Ashland’s Braden Donatini won the 300 hurdles in 40.94.
