ONTARIO — The hundreds of fight fans who crammed into the Ontario Center on Saturday night didn’t leave disappointed.
Mason Galco and Nathanial Jackson made sure of it.
The Mansfield fighters made their mixed martial arts debuts in the co-main event of the 13-bout Fight Night 22 by BCM Promotions, informally dubbed the “Brawl at the Mall.”
The bout reached the third round before Galco, the former Lucas High School football star, forced a stoppage when he landed a series of blows. Officially, Galco won by TKO (strikes) 24 seconds into the third and final round.
Neither Galco nor Jackson was in any shape to talk after the wildly entertaining fight, but the scores of fans who stood and cheered for the entire bout appreciated the effort.
The main event featured Rittman’s Nick Walls taking on Kestin McClain, who fought out of Paducah, Ky. McClain won by TKO in the third round of another entertaining fight to improve to 2-0. Walls slipped to 1-1.
There were plenty of other north central Ohio fighters in action Saturday.
Mansfield’s Joshua Lyons and Lucas’ Rayden Caudill both won in their debuts. Lyons stopped Robert Nye by first-round TKO, while Caudll won when his bout with Bucyrus’ Austin Murnahan was stopped in the first round.
In another all-area bout, Mansfield’s Devin Tuttle beat fellow Mansfielder Travis Young by first-round TKO. Lexington’s Benjamin Fain topped Markell Martin by first-round rear naked choke.
“It’s a surreal experience, to win in front of my hometown fans,” said Fain, who graduated from Lexington in 2011. “I feel like I deserved that win.”
Mansfield’s Hunter Williams, Cody Carpenter and Kristian Moore dropped their bouts. Carpenter and Moore were making their debuts.
