BUCYRUS — A 33-year-old Bucyrus man was charged with aggravated burglary and assault on a police officer Saturday evening after a domestic violence incident, according to the Bucyrus Police Department.
Daniel Hammond, 33, was also charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and was incarcerated in the Crawford County Justice Center, police said via social media.

Police said Saturday at 8:25 p.m. that both officers on duty were dispatched to a reported domestic violence situation on the north side of the city.
As officers were responding, a separate 9-1-1 call came in from the south side of the city.
In that instance, a female caller said her ex-boyfriend, armed with a rifle, was actively trying to break into her home where her current boyfriend and 9-year-old child were also present.
Lt. Tracy Keegan continued to the north end call as officer Devin Wireman was diverted to the sound end call. Deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office were requested to respond for assistance.
Upon arrival, Wireman located the male, later identified as Hammond, still actively trying to get into the residence at the front door.
The officer ordered Hammond to get on the ground and the suspect initially complied. Upon arrival of deputies, Hammond was placed into custody without incident. A loaded .50-caliber rifle was located in the yard near Hammond, police said.

As officers tried to transfer Hammond from a Bucyrus Police Department cruiser to a deputy’s cruiser to be taken to jail, Hammond slipped his handcuffs to the front of his body and became physically combative, striking officers with his hands and feet, according to the BPD.
The case has been sent to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for review, according to police.
