Lucas showed it was ready to play, using an early thrust to carve out a 7-6 advantage over Martins Ferry as the first quarter ended.
The Cubs got the better of the action throughout the first half, owning a 15-6 margin over the Purple Riders at intermission.
Martins Ferry broke in front at the beginning of the final quarter with a 28-15 lead over Lucas.
The Purple Riders held on with a 6-0 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
