DELAWARE — Parker Weithman was ready for the high school football season to begin on Thursday night.
The Fairbanks defense wasn’t ready for him.
Colonel Crawford’s junior receiver erupted for 187 yards on 4 catches (46.75 yards per catch) and three touchdowns as the Eagles soared over the Panthers at Selby Field in Delaware.
It was the season opener for both teams, but Weithman was already in midseason form.
Teammate Connor McMichael got C.C. off to an early lead with a 5-yard touchdown run. Then it was the Weitman Show.
The Eagles’ speedster hauled in a 43-yard scoring pass from Payton Baker, then added a 42-yard touchdown aerial from Brayden Holt. That made it 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Baker tossed a 73-yard TD strike to Weithman early in the second period to make it 28-7. McMichael got in on the passing attack too, catching a 5-yard pass from Baker to push the margin to 35-7 at halftime.
Holt fired a 19-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lash in the third quarter to trigger the running clock and finish the scoring.
Baker and Holt proved a formidable passing combination for C.C. Baker completed 4-of-7 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Holt hit on 5-of-10 aerials for 121 yards and a pair of scores.
The Colonel Crawford defense forced four turnovers to secure the victory.
The Eagles will play their home opener on Friday, Aug. 29 against Fairfield Union. Fairbanks returns to action next week at Indian Lake.
