MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Symphony returns to the Renaissance Theatre stage for the third annual Classical Mansfield concert on Saturday, September 20, at 7:30 PM, offering the community an extraordinary evening of music, free of charge.
Led by dynamic Music Director and Conductor Octavio Más-Arocas, this year’s performance welcomes internationally acclaimed violinist Yvonne Lam as featured soloist in a program brimming with energy, virtuosity, and symphonic color.
Tickets are free and available now through the Renaissance Box Office, by phone, or online at www.rentickets.org.
Audiences can expect a night of wide-ranging musical landscapes, from bold contemporary works to lush romanticism and playful jazz-inspired suites.
The evening opens with Gasoline Rainbows, a powerful, cinematic work reflecting on hope in the face of adversity and composed by 27-year-old Katahj Copley.
The program continues with Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor, showcasing Yvonne Lam’s dynamic artistry in one of the repertoire’s most evocative and demanding concertos.
Rounding out the evening are two beloved gems by Shostakovich: the sparkling Tahiti Trot (Tea for Two) and the exuberant Suite for Variety Orchestra No. 1 (also known as Jazz Suite No. 2), closing the concert in warmth and joy.
“This is one of the most exciting traditions we’ve built in recent years,” said Chelsie Thompson, President & CEO of the Renaissance Performing Arts Association.
“For our community to experience the MSO, without any cost barriers to attend, has been one of the proudest experiences of my tenure at the Renaissance. We believe deeply that music, and the arts, belong to everyone.
“Whether it’s your first time hearing the symphony or your hundredth, it’s an incredible opportunity to be part of something uplifting, inspiring, and unforgettable.”
Tickets are available at no charge, and donations are welcome to offset the cost of the performance.
This event is presented as part of the OhioHealth Symphony Series with support from a grant from the Gorman Fund of the Richland County Foundation, and is sponsored by Ed & Pat Olson, Directions Credit Union, and Discovery Dental.
