Judith (Judy) Ann Crowl, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A devoted and loving mother to Andrew and Ilene, Judy kept her positive spirit until the very end.
In recent years, she made her home at Mount Washington Care Center in Cincinnati. The exceptional care and kindness she received there brought comfort to her family. Although Mansfield was always her true home, she embraced her new surroundings with grace.
Judy was born on August 31, 1948 in Mansfield, to Harold and Ilene Scherer and was the eldest of five children. As the only sister among four brothers, she quickly learned how to take charge and took pride in keeping her brothers in line.
In 1970, she married the love of her life, Jim Crowl, after meeting him while working at The Ohio State University’s Mansfield campus. They shared 51 wonderful years of marriage.
A 1966 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Judy treasured the friendships she made there as well as those from her earlier years at St. Peter’s School in Mansfield.
Her professional life included positions at The Ohio State University Mansfield campus, the Richland County Board of Elections, Ohio Brass, and Scherer’s Draperies. Working alongside her mother at the family business was one of her greatest joys.
Judy is survived by her children, Andrew Crowl (Kristi) of California, Kentucky, Ilene Gemzer of Mansfield; and her beloved grandchildren, Olivia, Ava, and Liam. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, Harold and Ilene Scherer; her brother, Joe Scherer; and her grandson, Kegan Gemzer.
No memorial service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s honor may be made to the Msgr. Edward C. Dunn Foundation for Education at msgrdunnfoundation.org.
